Roses d’ Automne dans le Jardin

Le Blog 2023 No 32

Bonjour! Welcome back.

Autumn roses are a delight for the senses, and they can brighten up your mood and your space.

Autumn is a wonderful time to enjoy the beauty and fragrance of roses. Many varieties of roses bloom throughout the fall, adding color to your garden. Did you know you can still plant some varieties in the early fall? If you want to plant new roses or care for existing ones, here are some tips I found online to help you make the most of these fall-blooming flowers.

If you want to plant new roses in the early fall, there are a few colorful options to choose from.

Think about planting a Hybrid Tea Rose. These are the classic roses with large, elegant blooms and long stems, perfect for cutting and displaying in a vase. Choose from Arthur Bell, Queen Elizabeth, or Crystal Fairy.

Ther’s also Sally Holmes Rose. This is a shrub rose that produces clusters of creamy white flowers with a hint of pink. It has a sweet scent, and it can grow up to six feet tall and wide. They will create a colorful display along a fence or flowerbed. They are very hardy and disease-resistant, and it can tolerate some shade.

The New Dawn Rose is a climbing rose that has pale pink flowers with a silvery sheen. It has a medium, spicy scent. They will climb walls, fences, or arbors with its graceful vines. It is one of the most popular and reliable climbers, and it can bloom well into the fall.

Caring for Roses in the Fall

Roses need deep and regular watering, especially during dry spells. Make sure to water them at the base, avoiding wetting the foliage, which can lead to fungal diseases. You can also mulch around the plants to conserve moisture and prevent weeds. Mulching also helps prevent damage from frost.

Roses need regular feeding to produce abundant blooms. You can use a balanced fertilizer or a rose-specific one, following the label instructions. The last time to fertilize your roses should be about six weeks before the first frost date in your area, to avoid stimulating new growth that can be damaged by cold.

Roses need pruning to maintain their shape and health. You can deadhead spent flowers regularly to encourage more blooming. You can also remove any dead, diseased, or damaged branches as soon as you notice them. The main pruning should be done in late winter or early spring when the plants are dormant.

Now that you have finished in the garden, it’s time to enjoy a little respite.
